Field Technician

The Field Service Technician  is responsible  for on-site  high level technical  support  of installations, commissioning,  and repairs of various  low voltage  systems, with  specialization  in fire alarm systems. Selected candidate  will be responsible  for control  panel terminations,   configuration,   and programming. The Field Service Technician  will also be responsible  for conducting  post installation   testing  and/or commissioning   inspections,  and for the proper  completion   of all required  closeout  documentation. Responsibilities  also include technical  support  to resolve complex  installation  challenges,  system troubleshooting,    quality  control  checks of as built  drawings,  and ensuring  all work complies  with  approved drawings,  applicable  NFPA and local AHJ requirements,   quality  standards,  and manufacturer instructions.   Additional  responsibilities   include on site emergency  and scheduled  service repairs, inspections,  sales surveys, installations,  and other  responsibilities  as required  by management.

Minimum  Job Requirements:
  • Must have the ability to communicate  professionally,  utilizing face to face, telephone,  and electronic communications.
  • 2 years of commercial fire alarm programming   and commissioning experience is required.  Proficiency  with conventional,   addressable,  audio, power,  and cellular  communicator   panels required.  Additional   low
  • voltage  and/or  electrical  installation  experience  is preferred.
  • Must  have the ability  to create fire alarm  software  programs,  utilizing  company  provided  laptop  and software;  required  tasks include  upload/download    of control  panels, modification   of existing  programs, and the proper  archival of site specific software  programs.        
  • Must  have the ability to attend  and successfully complete  manufacturer' s   training  for fire  alarm systems certification.
  • Must be highly proficient  with  Microsoft  Office, Word,  and Excel; must be able to promptly,   properly,  and accurately  - create/edit   documents  including  NFPA forms,  service documentation,   parts and materials requests,  etc.
  • Must be highly proficient   in panel terminations   and configuration   including:  electrical  verification   of circuits,  neatness and reliability  of all panel wiring,  proper  use of technical  documentation   to ensure jumpers/harnesses/dip    switches/etc.   are set for proper operation.
  • Must  have thorough   knowledge  of applicable  NFPA and local AHJ requirements,   quality  standards, and manufacturer   instructions;   must ensure completed  installations  are in compliance  of such standards and that  results and any exceptions  are properly  documented.
  • Must have the ability to properly  use basic hand tools  required  for electrical  installations.  This includes and is not limited to: tape  measures, wire cutters,  wire  strippers,  pliers, screwdrivers,  hammers, wrenches,  glow  rods, fish tapes, saws, drills, multi-meters,   and toners.
  • Must provide  basic hand tools with  the exception of powered  hand and specialty tools.
  • Must have the ability to interpret   design drawings and install low voltage systems including  panels, devices, wiring, and all associated materials  required  for code compliant  installations.
  • Must have the ability to safely and frequently   stand, squat, lift, kneel, climb ladders, operate  lifts, and work  above ceilings or overhead  in conditioned   and unconditioned   environments.   Must be able to safely lift 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work  varying shifts.  Most work is performed   between  7: 00 AM and 5: 00 PM, and some shift work, early or late work, overtime, and weekend  work  may be required.  Occasional out of town  work  may be required.  Scheduled " On Call" availability  is required  for this position.
  • Must be punctual  and available to work  as scheduled.
  • Company vehicle  or vehicle allowance  is provided;  to be determined   upon a written   offer  of employment.

 

Required Experience:
  • National  Institute  for Certifications  in Engineering Technologies  (NICET), Fire Protection  Engineering Technology,  Fire Alarm Systems Levell  or higher  certification   is required.
  • Programming  experience  is required.  Certification   from  Hochiki or Firelite  is preferred.
